GIVE Machine 2026 – Partner Organization Spotlight Vol.4: Japanese Red Cross Society

Common

The Japanese Red Cross Society (JRCS) is a humanitarian organization established in 1887. Guided by its mission to "protect human life, health, and dignity," the organization carries out a wide range of activities both in Japan and around the world.

In Japan, the JRCS dispatches emergency response teams during major disasters such as earthquakes and heavy rainfall, providing medical assistance, psychological support, and emergency relief supplies. It also works to protect people's lives and health through blood donation services, first aid training, disaster preparedness education, medical services, and social welfare programs.

Internationally, the JRCS is part of a global humanitarian network comprising 191 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Through this network, it supports people affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters. Its activities cover a wide range of areas, including medical and healthcare services, water and sanitation, livelihood recovery, disaster preparedness, and climate change adaptation.

In recent years, as disasters have become increasingly severe and frequent both in Japan and around the world, the JRCS has strengthened its efforts not only in emergency response but also in post-disaster recovery and building disaster-resilient communities.

The Japanese Red Cross Society remains committed to standing alongside as many people in need as possible and continuing its work to uphold humanitarian principles.

Partnership Promotion Department, Japanese Red Cross Society
Akihiko Saito

"At the Japanese Red Cross Society, I am responsible for fundraising and partnership initiatives that support humanitarian activities, working in collaboration with companies, foundations, and international partners.

One thing I have come to strongly appreciate through my work is that so many people genuinely want to help others. At the same time, I often hear from people who wish to offer support but are unsure how they can contribute.

I believe that donating is more than simply providing financial assistance. It is a way of connecting people and bringing hope to those facing difficult circumstances, even in distant parts of the world.

In areas affected by disasters and conflicts, there is a tremendous need for assistance, including medical care, food supplies, and support for people living in evacuation shelters. These activities are made possible by the generous contributions of people like you.

Through this project, I hope more people will feel a closer connection to the work of the Red Cross and realize that 'there is something I can do to help.'

No matter how small an individual contribution may seem, when the kindness and generosity of many people come together, they can make a tremendous difference.

The Japanese Red Cross Society will continue its efforts to protect human life and dignity. We are deeply grateful for your understanding and generous support."

There are many ways to support the Japanese Red Cross Society beyond making a financial donation, including donating blood, participating in volunteer activities, and learning about first aid and disaster preparedness.
